About us
We are Martin Sikma and Pleun Bonekamp and love to travel to remote places where the animals still roam the lands undisturbed. We’ve always had great respect for nature and wildlife, and our love for documenting this through photography started during our five week offroad trip to Madagascar in 2017. During the years that followed, photography became more and more part of our lives and has brought us to all 7 continents.
We both hold a doctoral degree (PhD); Pleun in climatology and Martin in meteorology. Pleun has researched the climatology above glaciers in the Himalayan area, working with an international team of climatologists, glaciologists, hydrologists and geologists. She has worked in the Netherlands and Nepal. Martin has researched land-atmosphere interactions, with a focus on cloud physics, to improve the European and American weather forecasting system. He has worked in the Netherlands, Japan and Germany, collaborating with atmospheric scientists from all over the world.
In 2018, we both decided to move to the private sector with jobs focusing on European renewable energy and worldwide climate risks. At the end of 2022, we had a great desire to explore the world and quit our jobs early 2023 to put more time in our passion: photography & travel. We have lived on the road since then.
